The New York Spring Open day 1 had many top BJJ names competing in it names like Joao and Paulo Miyao, Gianni Grippo, Murilo Santana, Igor and Rolles Gracie and Sofia Amarante all won their divisions, however the most noteworthy competitor of the event was celebrity TV Chef Anthony Bourdain. Bourdain, following the footsteps of his wife Ottavia Bourdain, who is an avid BJJ practitioner, somehow finds time between his “No Reservation”, The Layover” and now CNN’s “Parts Unknown” TV hits programs to train at Renzo Gracie Academy in New York City.
Bourdain decided to test his skills at the New York Spring Open, competing and winning in his Blue Belt Master 5 division. Big congrats to Anthony not only on his win but a thanks for further exposing our art in some of his programs
